Learn to DJ
One-on-one DJ lessons in Melbourne. From bedroom DJ to performing your first live set, the five-lesson plan is perfect for beginners to intermediate DJs.
The five-lesson course
Upgrade your skillset so you can confidently walk into a club, bar or house party and rock a set without anyone working out it's your first time.
Personalised plans for every level of DJ, taught on the latest industry-standard gear. Whether you're rekordbox or Serato, digital or vinyl, we've got it all.
How to navigate the CDJs, mixer, faders and controls. Learn the purpose behind each dial, effect and button.
By ear first, sync second. Counting bars, hearing the phrase, finding the one. The skill everything else sits on.
EQ, filters and gain staging - making two tracks sound like one track, instead of two tracks fighting.
Building a set that goes somewhere. Key mixing, energy over an hour, and how to buy music without buying rubbish.
Reading a room - when to lift it, when to hold, how to rescue a floor that's walking out. Then a full set played start to finish, recorded, reviewed track by track, and sent to you.
After the five lessons, keep the momentum - book studio practice or one-on-one lessons whenever you want.

- Small groups

Give someone
their first set
Better than another bottle of something. Pick what they get, write the card, and it lands in their inbox - with a waveform built from their own name, so no two cards are the same.

Christian Pillot
Fifteen years and more than three thousand events - festivals, clubs, weddings, corporate rooms. As Colour Castle he's had multiple ARIA Club Chart #1s, releases on Hot Sunday Records, and tracks on Ministry of Sound compilations.
He's been teaching for seven of those years. The whole thing is one-on-one because that's the only way to fix the specific thing you're getting wrong - which is never the same thing twice.
- Splendour in the Grass
- Electric Gardens
- Ministry of Sound
- Hot Sunday Records
Lessons in action
Real people, real one-on-one sessions in the studio - tap to watch what a lesson actually looks like.
You're learning from a working artist
Christian releases and tours as Colour Castle - the same ears fixing your mixes are the ones behind ARIA Club Chart #1s and releases on Hot Sunday Records. Have a listen.
Before you book
I've never touched a pair of decks. Is that a problem?
That's most people who walk in. The first lesson assumes nothing - you'll be mixing two tracks together by the end of it.
Do I need my own gear?
No. The studio runs the same club-standard CDJs and mixer you'll find in most booths. Bring headphones if you have a pair you like, otherwise borrow ours.
What kind of music can I learn on?
Whatever you actually listen to. House, techno, hip-hop, disco, drum & bass - the skills are the same and the lessons get built around your music.
How long until I can play a real gig?
Most people are ready for a house party or a warm-up slot somewhere in the five-to-ten lesson range. It depends how much you practise between lessons, which is why studio time is cheap.
How do the gift vouchers work?
Buy one for the five-lesson course, a single lesson, or any amount you like. Personalise the card, then choose whether it emails to you now, emails to them on the day, or prints at home. They book in whenever suits - vouchers are valid for 3 years.
Can I buy a voucher for someone under 18?
Yes - get in touch and we'll sort out the details for anyone under 18.
Where are you?
Melbourne - get in touch for the exact studio location and parking. Lessons run seven days, days and evenings.
